Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

  • HELMET – wear a helmet
  • BE VISIBLE – wear reflective clothing
  • DESIGNATED AREAS – use crosswalks and bike lanes, don’t walk along highways or where pedestrians or bikes are prohibited
  • LOOK- look in all directions before you cross
  • EYE CONTACT – make eye contact with drivers before crossing
  • HANDS – use hand signals when turning and riding a bike
  • LIGHT – use flashlights and reflectors at night
  • OBSTRUCTIONS – Don’t cross or ride by tall hedges, parked cars or large vehicles
  • BE ALERT – don’t use headphones or a cell phone while walking, riding or crossing the street
  • STAY SOBER – alcohol and drug use increase your chances of getting hit due to slowed reflexes and impaired decision-making
